Job Summary:
Work as an independent insurance agent to broker and sell to business and individuals various types of insurance to include property and casualty, life, health, long term care and vehicle.
Assures compliance with all Bank policies and procedures, as well as, all applicable state and federal banking regulations.
Essential Job Functions:
• Sell various types of insurance policies to clientele on behalf of FLNB Insurance Agency and the Insurance companies they represent. Insurance programs will include property and casualty, automobile, life, medical and dental insurance or specialized policies such as marine, farm/crop, and medical malpractice.
• Call on policyholders to deliver and explain policies, to analyze insurance programs and suggest additions or changes, or to change beneficiaries.
• Customize insurance programs to suit individual customers, often covering a variety of risks.
• Interview prospective clients to obtain data about their financial resources and needs, the physical condition of the person or property to be insured, and to discuss any existing coverage. Calculate premiums and establish payment method.
• Seek out new clients and develop clientele by networking to find new customers and generate lists of prospective clients. Explain features, advantages and disadvantages of various policies to promote sale of insurance plans.
• On a weekly basis, complete an “Insurance Disclosure List” of new or renewal business of clientele that have changed insurance coverage.
• Contact underwriter and submit forms to obtain binder coverage
• Ensure that policy requirements are fulfilled, including any necessary medical examinations and the completion of appropriate forms including disclaimers.
• Confer with clients to obtain and provide information when claims are made on a policy.
• Perform administrative tasks, such as maintaining records and handling policy renewals.
• Select company that offers type of coverage requested by client to underwrite policy.
• Monitor insurance claims to ensure they are settled equitably for both the client and the insurer.
• Develop marketing strategies to compete with other individuals or companies who sell insurance.
• Attend meetings, seminars and programs to learn about new products and services, learn new skills, and receive technical assistance in developing new accounts.
• Inspect property, examining its general condition, type of construction, age, and other characteristics, to decide if it is a good insurance risk.
• Plan and oversee incorporation of an insurance program into a company.
• Complies with all applicable rules, regulations and policies, including but not limited to BSA, OFAC, and Physical Security.
• Supports the Insurance Agency goals and values.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is not responsible for supervising any employees.
EDUCATION & JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
• Requires a High school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus specific training in various insurance programs, along with three to five years of related experience a working in an Insurance Agency or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Educational experience, through in-house training sessions, formal school or an insurance related curriculum, should be business related.
• Basic experience, knowledge and training in the insurance market to include terminology, products and services.
• Basic knowledge of state and federal insurance regulations. Must be licensed by the State of Texas to sell various types of Insurance and securities.
• Basic skills in computer terminal and personal computer operation; mainframe computer system; and word processing and spreadsheet software.
• Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, interpret documents, understand procedures, write reports and correspondence, and speak clearly to customers when utilizing the telephone.
• The position demands a person with an outgoing and pleasant personality in dealing with customers.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
• Multi-lingual capabilities to include Spanish are a plus.
